Facility Description
The Greenwoods Care facility is a residential care facility in which professional care and supervision is provided for people who live with complex health needs. Residents of the facility typically require 24-hour care for a wide range of physical and cognitive challenges. Staff members assist with medications, activities of daily living such as dressing and bathing and eating.
Eligibility for admission to the Greenwoods Care Facility is based upon criteria set by the Vancouver Island Health Authority and Ministry of Health guidelines and policies. The first step in determining if a person is eligible for and requiring residential care is to have the Family Physician assess the individual and determine if referral to the Long Term Care intake department is prudent. Following intake the referral will be assigned to a Vancouver Island Health Authority staff person responsible for conducting a thorough standardized assessment of need and degree of urgency for residential care. In some cases it is determined that home support services, community resources and/or other support services and systems such as access to an Assisted Living unit are more appropriate than residential placement.
The assessor will be prepared to discuss options and services at the time of the assessment and will work with the client and family for an optimal plan for the individual client and their circumstances.
Residential care fees are charged on a daily rate based on the individual's annual income. Fees are billed once per month and cover the cost of the accommodation, basic supplies and equipment, meals, most medications, activities and care provided by staff. Additional fees can be paid for services such as hairdressing and specialized foot-care should the individual choose to partake of these services.
